ABOUT THE MEANING OF DEVOTION.
We may be a culture obsessed with power, but we are nevertheless driven by the need to love - to love and be loved.
This is where love, about what you do and about the people you surround yourself with, plays an essential role.
You could get up every morning and just be there or you could get up in the morning and feel the love for every step you take, for every conversation you have.
In fact, in the process of doing that, I came across the phrase "Practice the Practice.".
For a long time I believed that it was enough to practice yoga every day or to have a proper morning routine.
But the quality, i.e. the dedication to the things you do, is crucial.
It is similar to the quality of listening. You can just listen or you can listen and read between the lines; notice the facial expressions of the person you are talking to and the colour of their voice.
I understood that it takes love, patience and perseverance to "Practice the Practice".
Routines are there to get rid of old habits.
But the feeling of dedication is there to realise one's potential.
What makes you happy?
Social codes stop us from realising our own potential. Suddenly, certain material things become more important than our own practice, which lights the inner fire.
The first thing to do is to find out what you are good at and then look at what you find difficult or what keeps you from giving yourself fully to your interests.
If we don't deal with the things that keep us from realising our potential, we will always stay in the same place.
Practice the practice...
Let's think of daily practice as a closed loop system where the practices for each element feed the others and together they form the overall daily practice.
A Daily Practice is based on three core elements:
Mind - a Mindfulness practice helps to deepen your awareness.
Body - a body practice to increase physical health and overall wellbeing.
Food - a nutritional practice involves choosing healthy foods in your daily life so that your body and mind can function optimally.
There is a lot of evidence that the mind (thoughts, emotions and attitudes) and body (movement and physical health) are ultimately connected. Your thoughts and emotions influence your physical health, and your physical health influences your thoughts and emotions. The foods you eat affect your mind, body and overall wellbeing.
It is not so much about the shape, but about the deep and connected quality of the time spent in it.
The practice part means just that: you do it every day, over and over again, not in a rough way, but rather in a what-makes-me-who-I-am kind of way. Without the goal of never stopping.
It means to observe with patience; to slow the mind & body down.
Only those who slow down will be able to listen.
Mucho Love,
Estefania
