HOW TO LEAD WITH INTUITION
“Radical listening is the practice of intentionally quietening your internal voice and judgements, thereby offering your full mental space to the speaker. This is a practice in empathy, in compassion and in listening.”
How often do we feel irritated because we don't know whether the decisions we are going to make will be wrong or right?
Hoping that this little voice inside us will make the right decision. At the same time, we can't even describe if it was the intuition that just made the decision for our future self or if it was our rational brain that did it.
However, most people struggle with the same feeling: they want to label that gut feeling, or as most people call it, intuition, without knowing exactly what it is.
Keep your head together
In order to understand what intuition is, we first need to understand the scientific perspective. Somatic markers, or what we also call gut feelings/ intuition, are a highly sensitive evaluation system of the brain. You can think of these complex mechanisms as a kind of archive in which a gigantic collection of our experiences is stored.
Much faster than the conscious mind, namely within 200 milliseconds, it compares a situation with its wealth of experience, makes a decision and sends corresponding somatic, i.e. physical impulses: the stomach tightens, the throat constricts, the pulse rises, we feel anxiouse or we feel a diffuse. The opposite can also be the case; a positive gut feeling can be a tender tingling in the stomach area or a pleasant warmth in the chest.
They concluded that intuition is a very real psychological process where the brain uses past experiences and cues from the self and the environment to make a decision. The decision happens so quickly that it doesn’t register on a conscious level.
Apart from it all
How did it come to be that we no longer follow our inner voice on an emotional level?
As children, we are often trained not to trust our natural-born intuition. "You're just imagining it" or "Don't be so sensitive." - Have you ever heard this before? Phrases like these make the head more powerful than our inner intuition.
In this context, we distinguish between two types of people:
Some people rely entirely on their gut feeling and are almost always right. Whether it's a big decision or just planning a vacation.
And then there are the head people, who think over every decision several times and carefully weigh the pros and cons. They act completely rationally, even if their gut feeling quietly - perhaps even very loudly - sounds a warning.Basically, thinking things over is something positive, because rash action can also be harmful.
Ultimately, however, it is this certain primal instinct, intuition, that can save you from making many mistakes.
How does intuition make itself felt?
BRING YOUR BRAIN & INTUITION BACK TOGETHER
Intuition accompanies us throughout our lives and plays a major role in everyday situations:
You meet a stranger for the first time and immediately have a certain emotion. In a fraction of a second, your intuition tells you: "That person is likeable" or "That person should be treated with caution". Your mind cannot carry out a check-up as quickly as your gut feeling gives you an initial assessment. You have just thought of someone and they call you or send you a message? That is also intuition.
But how do we get access to our intuition?
There are two things to keep in mind that you can use in everyday life to work with your intuition:
1. Each morning, take time to meditate and sit in silence for 5 minutes. Listen to your breathing and ask yourself the question; what heart's desire do you want to pursue today? Listen to your answer and perhaps write it down afterwards.
2. Don't be afraid of making mistakes. Don't be afraid of the decisions you have to make. you won't get closer to your intuition by not making a decision.
If you consciously pay attention to your intuition, you will find that your gut feeling almost never lets you down. Because most of the time your mind confirms this first intuition.
I personally believe that the key lies in trust: trust in oneself but also in one's own actions.
If you have been following your mind more and do not know this feeling of intuition, now is the time to trust and follow your intuition.
